Dr. Joris Zimmermann

Joris graduated with an MSc in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Strasbourg, France, in 2020. He joined the group of Prof. Joseph Moran at ISIS–University of Strasbourg with an MRT fellowship and completed his PhD in 2024. His doctoral studies focused on understanding the prebiotic origins and transformations involved in gluconeogenesis, the pathway that life uses to synthesize sugars. After spending a few months in Ottawa, Canada, where the Moran lab was relocated, to finish some of his research projects, he joined the Maguire group as a postdoctoral research associate in 2025. He is now diving into the field of Systems Chemistry to develop decision-making materials. Outside of work and science, he enjoys rock climbing, traveling, playing video and board games, and a good pint (now enjoying the real taste of Guinness) with his friends.
